The Quiet Kind explores the tension of holding multiple, sometimes opposing emotions at once. Tenderness and strength, uncertainty and hope, grief and gratitude can occupy the same space. Through shifting colour and intuitive brushwork, the painting holds these contradictions without asking them to resolve. It reflects the quiet tension of learning that opposing feelings can coexist, each holding its own truth.

This artwork celebrates the people and moments that become the memories we carry with us. It reflects the feeling of holding close what matters most, those fleeting moments we wish could last forever. I never truly understood what it meant to feel as though my heart existed beyond myself - this unmeasurable love that I now know.
Depending on the light and styling, this artwork is very versatile as depicted by images taken at my studio.

During my artist residency in Japan, we had private rooftop views of Mt Fuji. I could not believe it and quickly unpacked my paints to begin. This painting was my first abstract landscape from my time spent there. Being here though, quickly became less about painting my surrounds and more about holding onto the feeling that I had from being there, which was of peace, wonder and an eagerness that I carried with me.

Inspired by my summer walks through Fujiyoshida, Japan, where hydrangeas lined the creeks flowing from Mount Fuji. The painting reflects the many moments of different hues of blue and soft petals in my every day during my artist residency.
